Professional Background
H.E. Lansana Kouyaté is a distinguished diplomat and politician known for his significant contributions to the Republic of Guinea and the broader West African region. After completing his studies in administration at the University of Conakry, Kouyaté swiftly advanced through various government positions. His diplomatic career further expanded when he served as Guinea's ambassador to multiple countries, including Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Sudan, Syria, and Turkey.
Kouyaté's influence extended to the international arena when, in 1992, he was appointed as Guinea's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Vice President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). His commitment to global peace and security was evident during his tenure as Deputy Special Representative for the UNOSOM II mission in Somalia in 1993, rising to Acting Representative by 1994. This pivotal role led to his appointment as the Assistant Secretary-General in the UN Department of Political Affairs, where he focused on resolving conflicts in Liberia and fostering regional stability.
