Highlights
I have a confession to make. I don’t usually watch the Olympics. This year, however, I can’t NOT watch. There is so much to talk about.
First, if you missed Stephen Nedoroscik's team gymnastics performance last week, stop right now and watch his routine in the finals. He is an anomaly at the Olympics—someone who is on a team but only participates in one routine. He calls himself a specialist. In a forum where many of the athletes participate in multiple disciplines and/or events, he focuses on one thing and one thing only.
The Pommel horse.
And here’s the thing- he doesn’t apologize because he doesn’t do more. He does one thing, and he does it very, very well. He never apologizes for not doing more. His teammates don’t fault him because he doesn’t do more. In fact, after his routine, they raised him up in the air and celebrated him. His score led our men’s gymnastics team to a medal for the first time in 16 years. The announcers didn’t fault him for not doing more; they spoke about him with deep respect.
Stephen started focusing on the pommel horse when he was 11 years old. He trained for years and flew all the way to Paris to do a 45-second routine.
There is a video of him with his eyes closed leading up to his routine. When asked if he was sleeping, he said that no, he was visualizing his routine.
In this world where so many of us judge ourselves because we don’t do more, here are some questions for you to slow down and consider-
What if I didn’t have to do EVERYTHING? What might that mean for ME?
Where am I a specialist?
Is there anything I do so well or love so much that if there was a team for this- I might be called in to do the magical thing that only I can do?
If I were to focus on areas that are more in my zone of genius rather than my zone of excellence or competence (or even incompetence) what might happen? {see the book by Gay Hendricks called The Big Leap for more on this.}
Stephen is just one of many athletes in this Olympics who we can all learn from.
More to come!

What Can Elvis Presley Teach Us about Sovereignty?
I spent most of the last two weeks in Minnesota taking care of my father after a knee replacement. He loved Elvis. One of my earliest memories is of sitting on a stool in his shop in the basement with him while he worked and played his music.
“In the Ghetto” still takes me back to those moments with him- I vowed to love Elvis as fiercely as my father did.
He hadn’t seen the 2022 film "Elvis," so we watched it together one night.
According to Merriam-Webster, sovereignty is defined as freedom from external control or autonomy. The movie suggests that Elvis was often controlled by his manager and lacked the freedom to make many decisions in his career.
As we watched Elvis's story unfold, my father wondered aloud, "Why did he push himself so relentlessly? Why not retire and enjoy life with all that money?"
I replied, "Because he knew he was destined to share his music."
The film concludes with a poignant scene: the real Elvis, near the end of his life, pouring his heart into playing the piano and singing, drenched in sweat. He wasn't merely performing; he was giving everything to his audience.
This commitment epitomizes a part of true sovereignty—not just recognizing our purpose but wholeheartedly sharing our gifts, no matter the circumstances. Elvis exemplified this beautifully.
Sovereignty is more than just personal freedom; it's about embracing the responsibility that comes with our unique talents and passions. It's about honoring the innate gifts we possess and allowing them to shine brightly in the world, despite any external pressures or expectations.
Elvis's journey highlights the importance of authenticity and dedication to our calling. Despite challenges and constraints, he remained true to his musical purpose, pouring his heart and soul into every performance.
What about you? What were you born to do? What unique gift must you share with the world? If you're unsure, are you ready to find out and take action?
Join us for "Sovereign: Coming Home to the Majesty of Who You Are," a transformative group coaching program for women starting in late May. Discover the power of embracing your sovereignty and unleashing your true gifts upon the world.
The world NEEDS your brilliance.
