Highlights
I am delighted to announce I have been promoted to Associate Director for Technology and Innovation at techUK! It has been a pleasure working with some fantastic companies across the AI, semiconductor and quantum space for the last four years, and I can’t wait for this to continue in this next role.
I am not one to be overly dramatic in my professional capacity (though I am sure my closest friends would lovingly say this doesn’t extend to my personal life.) However, I wanted to take a small moment for sentimentality and extend a tiny bit of wisdom in this moment for professional reflection.
Though not many people know, ten years ago I was fighting a rare disease called Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH.) Even in recovery, it left me with Idiopathic Arthritis that I live with to this day. I completed my GCSE’s, A-Levels and my degree in and out of hospital, sometimes for months on end, and receiving medical infusions every two weeks. I wish I could tell my younger self that, on the days it felt too tough, it is all working towards something bigger. Each challenge I overcame, and all the ones I didn’t, account for every step I have put forward to building a personal and professional life I am proud of. This has taught me that not every day will feel like you are succeeding, and that is okay. But every time you can, keep pushing forward. All the small steps add up.
Not one person’s success is their own, but a cumulation of the people who have empowered it. Of course, in my personal capacity I have many people to be unbelievably greatful for who don’t need a LinkedIn post to tell them this. However, professionally, I have been surrounded by some amazing people who encourage and support me always. If I can share any other wisdom, it would be to find yourself a Christopher Silberberg and Brigitte Zheng, who I started my very first job with in London, and have continued to be a sounding board and professional guides despite all moving onto different career paths. Nimmi Patel and Dani Dhiman have been fantastic allies at techUK, always offering a supportive ear to talk to. I can’t wait to see how these amazing women will continue to grow their careers. Trisha M., for always reminding me to fight my corner. Sue Daley for taking a chance on me four years ago when I joined techUK. And finally, to the wider techUK team for being so unbelievably supportive, creating a space where my ideas are listened to and taking chances on me to grow!
I wasn’t sure which photo to put with this, so here is a photo of the top of one of Mount Baldo peaks earlier this month, as it seems sufficiently poetic. Look how equally beautiful and tough the journey can be... 🧗♀️
So lovely to learn that I am on the UKTech2024 longlist this year alongside some of the fantastic women I work with at techUK. Congrats to Nimmi Patel, Sabina Maria Ciofu (she/her), Sophie Greaves, Sue Daley and Teodora K..
Congrats also to the Labour Digital chairs on the list who have been wonderful to work alongside! Casey Calista and Alexandra Davies-Jones
Will continue to advocate for #emergingtech and #innovation policy to make sure the benefits of tech are available for all 💪
