Honored by the invitation from Professor Lin William Cong at Cornell University's SC Johnson College of Business, FinTech Initiative, to give three guest lectures (in my personal capacity) with Lee Schneider on November 8-9 to his MBA FinTech class. Our lectures focused on the blockchain-enabled digital assets ecosystem, primarily covering token classification and regulatory challenges. Three key takeaways we shared include:

  1. Blockchains enable the tokenization of any item, such as assets, data, and information, and the possibilities of trading and borrowing against any type of token, including NFTs.
  2. A basic token classification could include physical asset tokens, services tokens, intangible asset tokens, and native DLT tokens. The functions and features of these types of tokens can help determine their utilization, valuation, and legal classification.
  3. Regulation of tokens raises general regulatory principles such as technological neutrality, the principle of "same asset or activity, same risk, same regulation," and fostering transparency through disclosures.

I'm thrilled that Risk Books has just published its latest book, Regtech, Suptech and Beyond, which features a timely book chapter that I co-authored with Bruce Tupper on "CFTC regtech implications for virtual currency trading." Such an honor to provide our insights in this important and growing space. You can order a copy at https://lnkd.in/dpnYNySP and use the discount code RSB25.
