Mulago just launched a blog to share our thinking and learning about social enterprise and how impact is created. We used my piece on impact investing to get things rolling. Hope it spurs some new thinking, but more importantly, more action for the people who need it the most.
Mulago is hiring! We are adding another Investment Principal to the team, and truth be told, we aim to find a bit of a unicorn. The primary responsibility for this role is to grow and manage a diverse portfolio of social investments (grants, debt and equity). The right person is entrepreneurial, thinks creatively, and would be eager to put his/her passport and rolodex (OK, iPhone) to good use in service of impact at scale.
Here's the catch: Mulago has grown from 3 to 7 people over the past 5 years, so we now find ourselves in the privileged position of imagining an ideal candidate to complement the rest of us. Our current team is rich in foundation and investing experience and we're specifically looking to add a person with a different (or additional) background - someone who’s been on the other side of the funding relationship. A person who’s built and/or operated an organization in the kind of settings where we work would bring a relished, fresh perspective to our team. The Principal role is best suited to a person with a masters degree and 6-10 years of work experience. Unfortunately we are not in a position to sponsor working visas.
