Highlight of the back surgery has been travelling in style 😎😜 Have a great weekend all ☀️

3 weeks ago today a very stoned and morphined up Laura came out of surgery.

After a year of trying to fix my back holistically with Accupuncture, a chiropractor and physio and reiki, I gave in and had a spinal discectomy 🏥

After surgery the pain that followed was unexpected, I had to learn to get out of bed, somehow go to the toilet without aid and how to walk all over again.

I took a weekend of complete rest learning these basic functions and celebrating every win! 🏆 To get on the toilet without help was one of the biggest, who put those things so low anyway?!

3 days later I was back at my home desk as I had the final parts of a deadline to deliver which was the CTS / Qodea skills matrix build and alignment with all leads 💪 To be honest I needed the distraction and played full out!

However, the first day back on project I soon realised I had to come off all pain meds, as I couldn’t think for the life of me, a one hour meeting felt like 5 hours 🙇‍♀️ everything felt like slow motion, not to mention hallucinations 🙈

So I stopped all codeine and reduced gabapentin, paracetamol and amitriptyline.

Within 10 days, I was med free! I had and still have some pain, but it’s nothing compared to before the surgery and deep down I’m a giant herbalist hippy, so I was glad to be off of all that stuff and wanted to listen to my body.

Now 21 days later, I’m walking 30 minutes or so a day and can sit for 30 minutes at a time and yesterday I did my first super low impact 20 minute work out.

My heart rate over the past 6 months went from a standard resting 51 up to a resting 76! I also put on a stone 📈

3 weeks later, my heart rate is now at 63 bpm gradually coming down and I’ve lost half a stone 🥳

Now slowly but surely I will recover and get back fit and strong. However, with a different mindset.

This year painful as it has been with losing my Mum and having chronic physical pain, I was gifted a new spiritual strength and mindset, which sometimes you have to go through the darkness to find ✨

I want to thank all of those who supported me this year, who made me laugh, who introduced me to projects, who put their faith in me, who brought things from me when funds were low.

You know who you are. Literal walking angels 👼

Of course my wife, who has been there for me every step of the way! My walking cane the past few months, my life coach and my best friend.

Also, I’m very grateful to Vitality health who covered the physio, chiropractic sessions and the surgery without any challenge.

It’s a cheesy thing to say, but I’m also proud of myself ❤️‍🩹

Now, you may wonder what is the second photo? It’s a sort of pee device for men to use as I couldnt lift myself for a bed pan… yes, I did work out how to use it, and yes, under the influence of morphine I did explain the method to all of the nurses in the hospital. I may have lost my dignity those days, but I didn’t lose my sense of humour 🤪
