All right, after 4.5 years of helping Minviro grow from 2 to 50 people, from 1 office in London to 4 offices on 3 continents and talking about LCA everywhere around the globe, it’s time to take the next step.

I’m super excited to be joining Tesla's responsible sourcing team and to be working alongside Ferdinand, Diana, Camila and Byron, to maximise positive impact in Tesla’s battery material supply chains.

This step would not have been possible without my time at Minviro. Would like to express my deepest gratitude to Robert Pell for suggesting to build an LCA company almost 5 years ago now. Also would like to say big thank you to Alex Grant and Lyle Trytten for all the support over the years, without them Minviro could not have had the big successes in lithium and nickel, and off course to Phoebe for somehow always making it earlier into the office than me and for the great collaboration the last 4 years! Legacy of the company is in great hands with the current team (cc Lydia, Anna, Sophie Myers, Rohin, Joshua, Pragna, Sarah, Bertie, Jordan, Conor, Gina-Camilla Glasø, Nicola and all the other amazing Minviro colleagues), and excited to see how the company will develop as LCA’s become a key component and regulatory component of the battery industry.

For now Im excited to discover Berlin as my new home town, and to deep dive into Tesla’s battery material supply chains!

So a couple of weeks ago probably the most advanced LCA modelling done by our very talented R&D team at Minviro was published in a white paper.

Sahin Alacacayir quantified the CO2 value proposition of using recycled cathode materials for a range of battery chemistries, and as part of that investigated what the minimum recycled content requirements as stated of the EU battery directive means for decarbonisation targets.

Long story short: recycling of cathode materials can take a massive chip out of the CO2 impact of batteries, although the paper also shows that decarbonisation of primary produced materials will be critical to fully decarbonise battery materials (and of course to fill the gap between existing supply and future demand).

The full white paper can be downloaded on our website (https://lnkd.in/eRwv6bGY), and come Thursday both Sahin and Irdanto Saputra Lase will host two webinars to give the full 360 overview of the methodology and results (UK AM webinar you can sign up here: https://lnkd.in/ebDewZvp, and PM webinar you can sign up here https://lnkd.in/etEvxAAW)
