Highlights
The BPO sector in SA is my personal hope for creating significantly more jobs for our youth unemployment crisis and I’m really inspired by BPESA’s global work (as non-profit) to create en enabling environment for our BPO’s and its people to thrive. BPESA's quarterly event yesterday highlighted the role of AI as enabler. This is especially exciting as Mintor Chat-Based Solutions’ AI Whatsapp Bots does what chatbots do for customer support, but just for internal employee support - and our Bots enable contact centres to very swiftly recruit and screen talent, and even onboard them with our chat-based learning platform. It’s time to value employees equally, and even more, than customers!
AI in Global Business Services - key thoughts provided by industry experts during the event: • Chatbots are going to get more clever and human-intuitive... if you are a frustrated customer just trying to speak to a human right now, be patient and expectant... soon you are going to prefer the Bot. • Don't worry, AI is not here to take your job. It's here to take care of monotonous tasks so that your intelligence and human relational value can come out to play more often. • Mindset... it's each of our own mindsets that determine whether we see AI as additional effort, don't trust it, don't make the effort to get to know it, are scared of it taking over... or whether we adapt a mindset of realising AI is here to stay AND help us. But all AI is not for all. Interview your AI's... do 'reference checks', put them on probation, and rate their performance, before employing them to assist you to have more time to be more of YOU.

What a special time spending two days at the IPM conference on DEIB with people who care about this topic, and not just act to tick a box. I also had the privilege to talk about how tech can be leveraged to foster a more inclusive workplace as well as diversifying the workforce and facilitating a culture of belonging for all - and how Mintor’s AI Bots are already enabling companies all over to make a difference in this regard.
My closing food for thought… we have the tech in hand, that’s advanced enough, affordable and accessible enough, to enable us to connect across multitudes of boundaries, to ensure that no-one gets left behind!
Some key thoughts shared throughout the event:
- Transformation is taking small steps, one at a time. Dr Jerry Gule
- It’s especially the voices that are not around the table that needs to be considered. How are we providing a safe platform for those to come to light? Marie Sebueng.
- Psychological Safety needs to be created for all diverse backgrounds alike. It is a critical ingredient for job performance.
- The agenda of DEIB can only happen if you look with your heart, not your eyes. Mr Goodness Cadogan
- If you want people to thrive, you need to enable a safe space at work for them to be their authentic selves. Pam Xaba
- If we can find a balance between compliance and allowing employees to be curious, we are one step closer to bringing more innovation and creativity to the workplace.
