AI Predictions for 2026:

Prediction #1: Computer Use will have a moment...

In late 2024 starting with Sonnet 3.5, AI crossed a threshold in tool calling and coding that made agentic programming suddenly viable. It wasn't great, but it was enough to spark a wave of adoption and innovation. Fast forward a year, 41% of all code is AI generated and engineers are landing hundreds of PRs a month and “not opening an IDE at all”.

Computer Use will follow a similar arc. The models have come a long way, but we haven’t hit that “oh shit” moment that wakes people up to what is possible. I think this moment will come in the first half of 2026, and by the end of the year we will be mid wave. We will start to see many more industries undergo a transformation similar to what Software Engineering had this year. The terminal, bash, and CLIs gave software a big head start - but Computer Use will build on this and fill the gap for fields where the tools are solely GUI.
