Leonardo G. Azevedo is a seasoned Research Scientist at IBM Research Brazil since 2013, having accumulated over 20 years of experience in research and development.

He holds a Ph.D. and a Master's degree in Computer Science from PESC/COPPE/UFRJ and a Bachelor's degree in Informatics from UFRJ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

His academic journey includes a Doctorate Internship in Spatial Database at Fernuniveritat in Hagen, NRW, Germany, emphasizing fields like Database, Spatial Database, and Algorithms.

With a rich educational background, Leonardo lectured on Database and Software Engineering at UniRio from 2006 to 2018 and was a researcher within the Graduate Program in Informatics, PPGI/UniRio, from 2009 to 2018.

His research interests span across various areas including Distributed Systems, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), Microservices Architecture (MSA), Databases, Provenance, Knowledge Engineering, Ontologies, Business Process Management (BPM), and Cognitive Computing.

In addition to his role at IBM, Leonardo has held various positions such as Professor at UniRio, IT Consultant at Petrobras, Senior Researcher and Project Manager at NP2Tec, and Project Manager and System Analyst at COPPETEC.
