Highlights
There is no better time to be announcing the launch of Emile - our online, full-time, 1:1 alternative middle and high school - alongside an amazing team that includes two of my oldest, childhood friends, Felix and Abdiel (Harvard M.Ed and Harvard Admissions officer). Who would have thought 3 kids from Koreatown who met at an elementary school in the notorious LAUSD would be building and launching an alternative middle and high school that tackles, head-on, the fundamental flaws of traditional education models that COVID-19 exposed enmasse. These cracks in the system can't be solved by another supplemental app or campus renovation. Zoom as a stop-gap solution for outdated classroom models is not sustainable either. Innovating at the margins won't work in K12 anymore. That’s why we built Emile as a full-stack solution — we develop own teachers, technology and curriculum. By building our product from the ground-up, we're able to provide a lower-cost, effective alternative to expensive private schools. One of my goals for 2019 was to get involved in my local community here in San Francisco.
YCore
I decided to be part of YCore as a project lead (ycore.org). YCore is an organization that pairs young professionals with participating non-profits in the Bay Area to work on 4-month long projects, to help move strategic initiatives forward.
LA COCINA + OUR PROJECT
This year, I chose to partner with La Cocina, a non-profit food incubator aiming to solve problems of equity in business ownership for women, immigrants, and people of color (lacocinasf.org).
The main objective of our project is to create a centralized database necessary for sales and press opportunities for La Cocina and its participating entrepreneurs, to increase visibility and ultimately equity.
FUNDRAISING
In order for YCore to continue empowering local orgs like La Cocina, we are raising funds with a goal of $2K. To donate, simply click on our Crowdrise link (https://lnkd.in/gkEPbGW)
