February was my last month at Symbotic. Those 7 years flew by fast, feeling more like 14 years of intense experience packed into a short span. Almost from the start my focus was with the teams on-site, fixing problems at the warehouse. That environment became my office, and a reflective vest was the standard outfit. I moved from site to site, to supplier, to factory with the team to tackle problems, almost always at their source. I'm proud of the progress we made, particularly in meeting customer timelines this year. These customers were incredibly engaging, and a big part of Symbotic's success. The NASDAQ visit two years ago was a career highlight that I will always remember.
This March, I joined Urbx. The best way I can describe it: think of an Automated Storage and Retrieval System – but flipped 90 degrees, where aisles are now shafts. From this angle, the system can complement existing solutions and even solve some difficult challenges – like grocery (Micro Fulfillment), with tote retrievals in under 10 seconds, to pet food, with totes sized for even the largest SKUs. We are a startup, and the journey ahead will be challenging. But I know from experience that with enough design, willpower, resources, and time – the toughest engineering problems can be solved. To help us accelerate, we will be working with partners like Designed Conveyor Systems (DCS) and Beckhoff Automation. An important part of the journey is having a patient customer who enables like a partner, which I'm again fortunate to have.
