When Drussila Hollanda five years ago asked me to join the board of Hive Helsinki I had little idea of what it takes to run a school. The Hive team has done exceptional things in exceptional times - the story covers stories from a few of our 500+ students. Moleculary biology, stay-at-home-moms, high-school students.. Hive's students are truly the most diverse. Some stats:
Hired by 85+ companies 38%* non-male in 2024 42% born abroad (49 countries) 63% never coded before 100% of internships lead to employment
However, this is only the beginning. Now we need more financial supporters to ensure we are here to stay.
The construction site of playground Ruoholahti is moving to a more detail-oriented phase. Love the keyboard benches and the pathways. The tables of the game controller sandbox will light up during the dark times (which, lets face it, Helsinki has..).
