The CORE North Carolina Sprouting Grass Moon event took place at the Milton R. Hunt Memorial Park in Pembroke, NC, focusing on cultural harm reduction strategies for overdose prevention. Several speakers shared their personal stories and offered valuable insights to Robeson County residents and Tribal community members. Duane and Leslie Caryn Maynor-Locklear discussed the devastating impact of addiction on their family, recounting the loss of their sons Ryan and Matt to overdose just nine months apart.

The event also included a cultural performance by the Drowning Creek Singers. Traditions and cultural practices play a vital role in the recovery process for many, fostering a sense of community and support.
