It was an honor to be at The White House today to celebrate several milestones for working family caregivers as part of the "Making Care Work" event.
There is so much work happening right now to strengthen the U.S. care economy — but there’s one thing in particular that I’m ecstatic about today. After a number of conversations and coordinated work from Wellthy, The ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC), and so many across the Administration, this week the Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Department of the Treasury released updated guidance clarifying that caregiving benefits — like those offered by Wellthy — are exempt from income and employment taxes.
This may sound technical, but its implications are massive and this guidance will have a profound impact on the lives of so many working families.
When there’s ambiguity in federal policy, it can be hard for employers to determine how best to support employees. This updated guidance remedies this ambiguity for many employers, and is a big step forward in ensuring that families and employees can access the care support they need for themselves and their loved ones without worrying about additional financial burdens or strain.
That’s a big win — for employers, for families, and for so many across the care sector. And I couldn’t be more proud of the leadership of Wellthy, ERIC, and those in and around the Administration for enabling this new guidance.

What an experience this week to be on stage at the #WSJHealthForum for a conversation around the scale and scope of eldercare today, and how caregiving for aging loved ones is touching the lives of so many families.
Every day 11,000 people turn 65 years old, and nearly 70% of this population — our parents, grandparents, spouses, partners, friends, and loved ones — will need long-term care. But amidst a shortage of paid caregivers and a population living longer with more complex care needs, families are going to face increasing challenges in absorbing this care.
With stakes that high, it's so important to be driving conversations around eldercare and aging in some of our biggest healthcare, media, and medical arenas. I couldn't be more grateful to have joined Betsy McKay from the The Wall Street Journal and Heather O'Sullivan MS, RN, AGNP from Mass General Brigham to talk about how companies, organizations, and policymakers are working to solve the challenges of providing care for an aging population.
