Lisa Helps is a well-educated individual with a diverse background in history, women's studies, and housing. She pursued her undergraduate studies in History and Women's Studies at the University of Victoria and began her General undergraduate degree at Trent University. Lisa Holds a Ph.D. (ABD) in Housing, Homelessness, and the Governance of Poverty, focusing on the period of 1930-70, from the University of Toronto. Additionally, she completed a Master's degree in History from the University of Victoria.

Lisa's professional journey includes a range of roles in various organizations. She currently serves as the Mayor of the City of Victoria, BC. Previously, she had experience as the Co-owner of The Backyard Project, a City Councillor for the City of Victoria, and the Executive Director of the Community Micro Lending Society. Moreover, she worked in roles such as Strategic Planning and Facilitation as a self-employed individual, Sessional Instructor at the University of Victoria, and served on the Program Committee as a volunteer for the Leadership Victoria Society. Lisa has also contributed as a Book Editor for 'Home and Native Land: Unsettling Multiculturalism in Canada' at Between the Lines Publishers, held the position of Board Chair at the Fernwood Neighbourhood Resource Group, and was involved as the Chair of the Bread and Roses Collective. Furthermore, she has experience as the Founding Editor of the Village Vibe Newspaper, worked as a dishwasher at the Blue Fox Restaurant, taught English as a Second Language as a self-employed individual, engaged in landscaping and painting services, worked as a Tree Planter and Tree Planting Cook at Outland Reforestation, and also served as an Instructor and Program Coordinator at the YMCA of London Ontario.
