Highlights
This past week I joined a panel at the GreenPearl National Women's Real Estate Forum in San Diego 🌟
Reflecting on my time there, the first thing I noticed is that when women are together – without men – they talk way more! There’s more of an openness and a feeling of mutual respect and recognition of what it likely took for everyone to get where they are in their lives and careers. And there were no underlying motives or politicking - even among competitors - other than just making each other look good and getting stuff done 👭🎯
At Industrious, being part of a woman-dominated company in an industry not traditionally known for its inclusivity, it’s easy to overlook the significance of bringing together women executives to discuss leadership. These conversations, especially poignant during #WomensHistoryMonth, reminded me of the power of our collective voice and the importance of fostering connections that extend beyond the boardroom 📢👩👩👧👧.
So I’m sharing a few key insights that stood out to me from the event:
👉 Are you in the right seat? Sometimes you need to assess if you're in the best position to lead and empower your team. Comfort in familiar roles can distract from true leadership responsibilities and impact organizational dynamics – especially if you’ve been promoted up through an organization, there can always be a temptation to lean back into more comfortable territory.
👉👉 How harshly do you judge yourself? Women often judge themselves more harshly than others do, driven by internal narratives rather than external perceptions. Recognize that most external judgments are less critical than we imagine.
👉 👉👉Are your actions speaking louder than your words? Leadership is less about what you say and more about what you do—actions speak volumes. Model the behavior you expect from your team, such as truly disconnecting during PTO, to authentically lead by example.
On a more personal note, I laughed together over dinner with a group of new friends Jessica Carps Serena Sayani about shared pain points of being a female leader -- the ‘who is watching your kids question,’ the stress on a marriage that happens no matter how equal the distribution of household activities & child raising is, and so much more.
As women, let's continue to support one another and make space for these vital conversations. 🙏
We are hiring a bunch of roles on the legal team at Industrious, including a Vice President, Legal and Real Estate Counsel. Please reach out to me directly if you're interested in joining a fast growing team that's helping to define the future of the workplace!
