Highlights
I am extremely excited and proud to share that my team and I won FIRST PLACE for the Social Impact 3-day Hackathon that General Assembly hosted at the end of August!
The purpose of the hackathon was to collaborate, learn, and compete with individuals from different technical and creative disciplines to build a real product that solves a problem that matters, as big or small as we wanted. Our team developed a solution to provide First Generation Immigrants coming to Canada the ability to find a sense of community through mentorship, networking and community events upon their arrival.
Cheers to my teammates - Hyunjin Kim, Basma Shahid and Ben Shekhtman! The process of building in such a short amount of time wasn’t always smooth, but it made us stronger communicators, more agile and tested our patience significantly. It was rewarding to see our vision come to life and I am so happy that I met such wonderful people!
I am incredibly appreciative of Zoe McGhie & George Brumfitt for organizing this event and connecting us with our mentors, Criselda Tejada & Doug Jones, who supported us! A special thanks to our judges who provided us with invaluable feedback on our presentation, product and skill sets (Preetika B., James Knupfer, Shashike Jayatunge, Bliss Man, and Zaid Rasid).
Through researching, building and collaborating, we realized that there is a huge need for this solution, which is why I am excited to continue to develop this as a passion project. I decided to transition into design to make an impact and this is one of the ways I can use my education and skills to do that.

I am happy to share that today I received my UX Design Bootcamp Certificate at General Assembly in TO! Over 480 hours of work over 12 weeks was put into changing my career and I gained so much more than I ever imagined.
Thank you to my amazing instructors (Quentin Daniel McCollum & Utpal Nagori), career coaches (Zoe McGhie & George Brumfitt), GA team and incredibly humble UXDI/SEI cohorts who endured this journey with me. We motivated and supported one another, which made the entire process feel like we were exactly where we were supposed to be! I am so excited for the road ahead!
