#AI

"Well it just goes to show you, it's always something."  ~Roseanne Roseannadanna

Let's not take anything at face value anymore, now that generative AI is doing 10 times the writing as humans...

Here's why:

Just when we might have thought that #generativeai is going to solve all of our problems so we can spend more time drinking wine and watching movies (I'm speaking for myself here) it turns out that these apps can foster hate speech and political bias, simply because of the way the language models have been created.

And I don't think any of it started out as intentional, but I could be naive here.

"A language model uses machine learning to conduct a probability distribution over words used to predict the most likely next word in a sentence based on the previous entry. Language models learn from text and can be used for producing original text, predicting the next word in a text, speech recognition, optical character recognition and handwriting recognition." BuiltIn.com

The way they're coded sets them up to learn from text in their own particular way. Kind of like how many of us grew up speaking English as our first language, so we think in English.

If you want to explore this more, check out the research paper in comments.

Are you using generative AI to help with your writing? If so, what are you using it for?

I use it for brainstorming, but not writing, because it doesn't sound like me. And I prefer that human connection wherever possible. In all my imperfect, gramatically questionable verve.

Wishing you Peace, Love, and AI, Lori

P.S. I'm just launching an AI focused podcast called... you guessed it... Peace, Love, AI. Link in comments if you want to join in on the fun and intrigue.
