Luc Piguet is the CEO and co-founder of ClearSpace SA, a startup based in Lausanne, Switzerland, that aims to clear space debris and develop in-orbit servicing for sustainable space operations.12 ClearSpace emerged from a project that began in 2012 at the EPFL Space Center, focusing on technologies to capture and deorbit obsolete space objects.2 In 2019, the European Space Agency (ESA) selected ClearSpace to lead a European consortium for the first autonomous debris removal mission, known as ESA ClearSpace-1.23 This mission is supported by eight countries: Switzerland, the UK, Germany, Portugal, Poland, Sweden, Romania, and the Czech Republic.2
