Simpro to Aroflo
I thought I would post our recent decision to migrate Fast Solar’s operating system from Simpro to Aroflo. It is not intended to be critical of Simpro as all systems have their strengths and weaknesses.
The key reasons for the change are:
Scheduling - Simpro only has limited customisation capability, which is system wide, not user specific and only displays one calendar view at a time. Fast Solar staff have resorted to using a spreadsheet to schedule and provide statuses of crews, job status, invoice status, invoice approval and job notes. I would argue that Simpro workflow and segmentation does cover much of Fast Solar’s spreadsheet but still remains weak on customisation. Fast Solar sees this as a critical feature especially as the number of crews grow. We are a labour business, so scheduling capability and flexibility is critical to the business.
Reporting - Simpro standard reporting is not customisable at all. There is a BI Reporting tool but the data is lagged 24-48 hours, so this cannot be used to view live data. There are lists you can export as csv but it is dependent on the view you are running it from, so in some instances you have to run multiple downloads to get the information you are seeking. Then schedule reports are set to the time frame, bizarrely, of the frequency of the report. For example, we wanted a back order report to be distributed daily. It only shows orders which have items outstanding on the day, not all items which are on backorder. The only alternative for reporting with Simpro would be to use a 3rd party API application. As we need to be on top of the business and without easily accessible live data Simpro reporting fails to satisfy.
Field Mobile - Simpro has ‘audits’ which enable you to set forms to be completed by your staff eg JSAs, Inspection reports, incident reports, etc. The issue with these is you cannot get access to the data. The data capture is saved as pdfs only. Equally to manage SWMS which involve more creative report design we require an additional license for Eforms. Again, Eforms post completion is saved as a pdf, no data capture, so no reporting.
Support - Simpro support is basic, often questions are unable to be answered or at worst answered incorrectly. Though a small difference Simpro support does not login to your computer, whereas Aroflo login and you can show them what your view and they then are able to show you how to resolve.
Simpro does have strengths, for instance, their data feeds are incredibly powerful and user friendly. However, on balance we believe Simpro will be less efficient as we grow, so we decided to make the decision now before we grow rather than be embedded with a system we felt was going to hold back as we grow.
