Lucy McGarry

Lucy McGarry is a postdoctoral fellow at the Brain and Mind Institute at Western University, where she conducts research in the Music and Neuroscience laboratory. She is also the founder of Emoteplay, an app company focused on developing games to enhance social communication skills in children.

Her research interests lie in investigating emotional contagion and emotional understanding through physiological techniques such as EEG and fMRI. Lucy explores how neural and peripheral processes contribute to understanding emotions and intentions in others, with a particular focus on the impact of dance training on emotional and musical understanding. She also investigates the potential of neurofeedback and mirroring therapy for empathy training in individuals with autism.

Lucy's specialties include EEG implementation and data analysis, conducting experiments with various physiological equipment, utilizing Matlab for data analysis, and programming experiments using tools like Psyscope, EPrime, and Presentation. In addition to her academic pursuits, Lucy has a background in app development.

She pursued her education at the University of Toronto (St. Michael's College), Ryerson University for her Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Psychology. Lucy has held various roles including Chief Executive Officer at Emoteplay Apps, Statistics Teaching Assistant at Ryerson University, Ph.D. Student and Research Assistant at Ryerson University, and Creative Director at Only Human Dance Collective.
