Lynnda Kiess

Senior Programme Advisor Nutrition at World Food Programme

Lynnda Kiess is currently the Chief of Learning and Innovation with the World Food Programme Nutrition and Food Quality Service based in Rome.1 She has over 30 years of experience in operational research, programme design, and advocacy, working in sub-Saharan Africa, South and East Asia, and the United States.1 Her expertise ranges from nutrition analysis, food security, food policy and food systems, public health nutrition, as well as humanitarian response in emergency and fragile contexts.1

Before joining WFP in 2010, Kiess served as the Head of Health and Nutrition at Concern Worldwide in Dublin for four years.1 From 1997 to 2004, she worked with Helen Keller International in various roles, including Country Director in Bangladesh, Regional Advisor for Asia Pacific, and Head of Health and Nutrition based in New York.1

Kiess has also worked for the World Bank Population, Health Nutrition Team and was a Child Survival Fellow at USAID.1 She holds an MPH in International Health from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in Nutritional Science from Purdue University.1

In her role at WFP, Kiess has been involved in various nutrition-related initiatives and studies. For example, she worked on the "Bridging the Gap" study in 2018, which focused on understanding the needs of adolescent mothers in Kenya, Uganda, Guatemala, and Cambodia.2 She emphasizes the importance of tailoring services to adolescents' needs and involving them in program design.2
