The new year has us thinking of resolutions and goals that we hope to accomplish in the next twelve months. I would guess that most of your goals are related to the work that you do. But I would ask if you've considered what your self-care plan is for 2023? If you closed out 2023 feeling tired, burnt out, and maybe a little depressed or sad, then it's time to create a 2023 self-care plan that gets you through the year with energy, confidence and contentment. Four areas should be addressed - mind, body, emotions, and spirit. First, can you define what your current practices are? Do you even pay attention to these areas? What would you like to do differently? This may take some thought and I hope you discern more deeply than "lose 20 pounds". Second, think about what barriers might exist to prevent you from striving for your goals. How can you navigate through them? If you've not considered self-care to be important in the past, I would encourage you to add it to your list of goals this year. Nurturing the four components of who we are makes success in other areas of our lives possible. #energy #self-care #resolutions2023

Thich Nhat Hahn, the Father of Mindfulness, says "My actions are my only true belongings." As a psychotherapist, one of the first things I often do with a client is have them identify their true values. This is a hard task for most people and they often struggle. We think we know what we value, but when we examine how we spend our time, what our leisure activities are, who we spend our time with, we find that we are not living what we believe to be our values. The painful question I have been turning over in my mind the last few days is that we say we value our children above everything. But have our actions shown that? If we really valued our children like we say we do, would we permit them to be in jeopardy in their classrooms? Being true to our core values is an exercise is self-discipline and in being authentic. It's hard work. Is our country and the American people ready finally to do the hard work of determining what our true values are?
