Highlights
I’m happy to share that I’m starting an NIH OITE-PEP Research Fellowship position in the Center for Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias (CARD) at The National Institutes of Health! I look forward to expanding my scientific skills and continuing my development in such an energizing environment.
It's never too late to celebrate... 🎉
In a full-circle moment, I had the opportunity to be pinned as a first-generation graduate by Charlene Lobo Soriano. This was particularly meaningful because back in 2020, she welcomed me to USF with open arms and witnessed the unnecessary calamity of my first class registration (pleased to say it never happened again)!
Also, I was ecstatic to celebrate alongside my classmates and mentors. It was a privilege & honor to receive the 2024 Dean's Medal for Excellence in the Sciences. Notably, during my interview, I was able to reflect on the importance of stories that connect us and make us. More importantly, I was filled with a deep sense of fulfillment in the personal strides I have accomplished - academically and in my personal life. The impact and beauty of grasping who I am, who I want to be, and who I can be is unparalleled by any other feeling of empowerment. It ultimately has led me to understand that you can't change the world unless you understand the twists, turns, and intricacies of your world.
All of this would not be possible without everyone who has shaped my story by allowing me to learn from their lived experiences. From those elementary days when I could barely say the days of the week in English to my high school years and beyond, there are too many people to name but I am immensely grateful to all of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart 🫶🏼
On to the next chapter … 📚
I am elated to announce that I will continue my development as a future physician-scientist & leader as an OITE-Postbac Enrichment Program (OITE-PEP) Fellow in the molecular pathology unit at the Center for Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias (CARD) at The National Institutes of Health. In the laboratory, I will focus on cellular and molecular mechanisms in neuronal and non-neuronal pathology in neurodegenerative diseases. Moreover, I will be immersed in a program-specific curriculum focused on developing my leadership, professional skills, and wellness readiness in preparation for careers in health care and research!
