I appreciate the many business leaders who have spoken out in the wake of last weekend's attack on Former President Donald Trump.

The entire point of a functioning democracy is to resolve conflict and find common ground without resorting to violence.

Leadership Now Project's statement is worth reading: "Political violence goes against the core values of American democracy, a system that allows us all to express our views without fear of violence, intimidation or retribution. We must continue to work to restore faith in our democracy and uphold those principles.

Leadership Now Project CEO Daniella Ballou-Aares has concrete advice for how business leaders can move fast and fix our nation* this election year.

Authoritarianism is on the rise, bringing with it election denialism, political violence. None of this is good for our economy. And we also, see, writes Ballou-Aares, "political leaders... taking to X (formerly Twitter) to threaten companies, and it’s going beyond rhetoric, particularly by governors and state legislatures."

So what can business leaders do, particularly GenX leaders? "Maintain trust in elections, protect the ability of individuals or companies to disagree with political leaders without fear of retribution, and to support elected officials who show a commitment to strengthening the system."
