Malcolm Asher

Co-Founder @ Paxos Appeals | Stanford

Malcolm Asher is a co-founder of Paxos Appeals, a health tech startup aimed at assisting patients in navigating insurance appeals and maximizing reimbursements for medical treatments. He graduated from Stanford University with a degree in Human Biology. His journey into this field began when he helped a fellow student, Alex Lacey, who faced an insurance denial for a significant medical procedure. This experience led to the formation of Paxos Appeals alongside Lacey and another co-founder, Haley King.124

Asher's role at Paxos Appeals involves leveraging his background in healthcare technology and policy to address the complexities of insurance coverage for out-of-network treatments. The startup was inspired by personal experiences with insurance challenges, aiming to improve access to necessary medical care for patients.23

This past year, I founded Paxos Appeals with Alex Lacey and Haley King! My Co-Founders won the Stanford Impact Design Immersion Fellowship, an eight-week program that supports Stanford GSB’s most promising MBA social innovators, for us to scale the company full-time this summer, thanks to the Stanford University Center for Social Innovation.

Medical debt is the number one driver of bankruptcy in the U.S., and we’re here to ensure patients get the medical procedures they need while navigating the overly complex U.S. health insurance system. If you know anyone with experience in health insurance appeals, patient advocacy, revenue cycle management, or similar, I’d love to speak with them. Let’s make healthcare more accessible!
