It’s time for an update on my employment!
I was moved and flattered by the support and help you all offered when I asked for assistance with my job search. It was a vulnerable position to be in, and made even more scary by the current economic climate.
After a number of blind applications, organic conversations, and ultimately full interview loops, I am excited to share that I have joined the product group at PitchBook Data here in their Seattle HQ.
This opportunity checks all of the boxes I was after: A product company, a visible position, leadership, a welcoming culture, in-office yet flexible schedule, and a healthy work-life balance.
We’re solving difficult business and customer challenges through design, and for the first time in my career I have peers who are experts in areas outside of creative services.
This is, for all intents and purposes, a career change, and I am thrilled to start this next chapter.
Thank you again all so much!
This is a post asking for help, which, as someone who places a high value on independence, is very difficult for me to do.
We’re closing Rainfall, and I am now looking for work in the digital product design space.
We had a great six year run (the numbers are in my bio), and business was steady until late last summer when projects ended, and, similar to many other agencies, our phone stopped ringing as clients reacted to negative economic news.
To make matters worse, we suffered collateral damage from nightmares that have the power to wipe out a small studio. Events that aren’t as sexy and inspiring to share as the stories of small studios growing and thriving.
In June, a financial client filed for bankruptcy and is now embroiled in conflict regarding the legitimacy of their business, making it difficult and embarrassing for us to show their work in our portfolio. I am still proud of it, and I hope it goes without saying that I had no insight into the reality of their business practices.
In October, a client in the payment processing space launched our website and then refused payment of the final invoice. Our legal team has been helpful, but there is a point at which we could no longer throw good money after bad. Please use Stripe.
We explored a couple avenues for acquisition, but alas, the best option was to move on, and that time has come as we wrap up our remaining projects.
While their impact was substantial, these negative events were just a blip in what was an otherwise exhilarating run.
We built systems for not just creating, but delivering and measuring consistently excellent and effective design.
Cross-functional teams of all sizes looked to our small band of creatives for strategic thinking and a fresh approach.
Some days we were mavericks and turned products on their heads, on others we buckled down and extended functionality through systems-thinking.
Every day was different, and created amazing opportunities to learn and polish our craft.
Obviously I’m disappointed, but also excited to pour myself into whatever comes next. If you know of an open role, or have an introduction you can make, I’d truly appreciate it.
Thank you!
