Surfing on mushrooms 🍄 with Thibaut Fournel from Koz Surfboards, and Marco Juliot from MAKŪ surf in Plouharnel, France, to test a very cool #mycelium made #surfboard. 🏄

Thibault has created a #biodegradable and #biosourced surfboard. They chose mycelium, a promising future material with low energy costs, eco-friendly and locally produced, to replace the polystyrene currently used in the production of boards. They also chose flax fiber as a replacement for fiberglass and a biobased resin instead of epoxy.

🌱 Their goal is to design boards with minimal environmental impact, from their production to the end of the boards’ #lifecycle, as in #compost to feed the soil. Their project is a declaration of intent in favour of the planet and an environmentally friendly approach to cleaner surfing in symbiosis with the #ocean. 🌊

🌍 Can we transform #plastic #waste with #mycelium?

Chinese studio NONGZAO is reimagining everyday plastic items through their "CONSUMER" project. They transform plastic waste into eco-friendly, aesthetically unique objects.

🌱 Turning Waste into Resources: The CONSUMER project utilizes agricultural waste like coffee grounds and rice husks as a growth medium for mycelium, which in turn transforms plastic items into biodegradable products. This process not only recycles valuable nutrients but also absorbs carbon, contributing to reduced atmospheric CO2 levels.

🦾 Breaking the Mold of Mass Production: Unlike traditional industrial methods, NONGZAO’s approach allows mycelium to naturally shape each item, resulting in unique, organic forms.

👾 Fighting Plastic Pollution with Design: With over 430 million tons of plastic produced annually, much of it becoming waste, NONGZAO's work is a powerful statement against environmental degradation.
