A couple of weeks ago, we at 2150 published our Biodiversity 101 report (https://lnkd.in/eidZX7cT) and I couldn't be more excited to share this piece of work with the world.

Our first release, in a short series on Biodiversity. The next will be a detailed blog post on Biodiversity and Nature MRV technologies. Stay tuned...

💰 60% of our global GDP ($58 trillion) is moderately or highly dependent on nature and its services. Yet, biodiversity is disappearing at the fastest rate in human history. Continued biodiversity loss will have dire consequences for our livelihoods and our economy, and further exacerbate the impacts of climate change on vulnerable communities.

🌍 There is some positive news though! Global action on biodiversity is rapidly gaining momentum. At COP15 in December 2022, 196 countries agreed to halt and reverse nature loss, committing to protect and restore 30% of land and oceans and close the $700 billion funding gap. In the private sector, over 50,000 companies will soon be required to report on nature through the CSRD and voluntary frameworks such as the TNFD and SBTN. The WEF estimates that $10 trillion of value could be generated by 15 nature-positive transitions by 2030.

🐝 As an early investor into NatureMetrics, biodiversity is a topic we have been focused on for some time at 2150 and we're excited to share our learnings, to support discussion, meaningful action and additional investment into this space.

🌳 In this report we unpack the latest research on biodiversity and ecosystem services: what they are; why they matter; why society and economic actors should care; what are some of the actions that can be taken to alter the current trajectory, to improve our wellbeing and resilience.

With thanks and kudos to my wonderful colleague Gemma Shepherd who held the pen on this piece.
