Margot van der Velden

WFP Director of Emergencies

Margot VANDERVELDEN is a highly experienced professional with a strong educational background in Foods, Nutrition, and Wellness Studies.

She obtained her Master's degree from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, and also studied at Wageningen University & Research.

Margot has held various key positions within the World Food Programme (WFP), showcasing her expertise in emergencies, regional coordination, nutrition, program design, and food security analysis.

Her roles have included WFP Director of Emergencies, Deputy Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Emergency Coordinator for the same region, Deputy Country Director for Sudan and Mozambique, and Chief Nutritionist in Italy, among others.

Prior to her work with the WFP, Margot served as an Emergency Officer at the United Nations World Food Programme and as a Nutritionist at Médecins Sans Frontières Belgium.
