Here's a screenshot of the current 'sales' of my free template, which Framer added to their site a month ago. (And no, Framer isn’t paying me for this ad! 😄)
Yes, it sounds odd, but when you publish a free template, you can earn 50% of the subscription cost if someone upgrades after using your design.
Free templates have their downsides — sales are slower, and the volume is smaller than paid ones. However, my primary goal was to master Framer at the highest level. Now, I can build simple landing pages in just a couple of hours — I've already created two such single-page websites 🚀
Why am I writing so much here? Because with widespread layoffs in global IT companies that have affected designers as well, I want to share how you can monetise your digital products even in tough times.
You can also host your template on other platforms, like Superb Themes and I'm considering trying out Etsy too 🤘
It's worth mentioning that once you publish a free resource, other platforms might pick it up quickly. That's how I found my template on other popular sites like Freebiesbug.
I also recommend duplicating your template in the Figma community. It not only helps your customers but also drives additional traffic.
I hope you find this post helpful, and perhaps it will inspire some of you to try creating your own template 👨🚀
