Dr. Marion Mateos is a Paediatric Oncologist and Clinical Research Fellow with expertise in pediatric neuro-oncology and personalized medicine for childhood cancers.12 She divides her time between the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children's Hospital as a paediatric oncologist and the Personalised Medicine Program at the Children's Cancer Institute, Lowy Cancer Research Centre at UNSW.1

Dr. Mateos completed her PhD focusing on clinical and genomic risk factors for treatment-related toxicity in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).1 Her research has been published in prestigious journals such as Nature Reviews Cancer and The Lancet Oncology.1 Currently, she is co-leading an international study on severe and symptomatic thromboembolism in pediatric ALL through the Ponte di Legno Toxicity Working Group.1

Prior to her current roles, Dr. Mateos completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in paediatric neuro-oncology at the Northern Institute of Cancer Research and the Great North Children's Hospital in the United Kingdom.1 She has attracted over AUD$900,000 in research funding since starting her PhD, including a three-year Cancer Institute New South Wales Early Career Fellowship from 2019 to 2022.1

Dr. Mateos's research interests include personalized pediatric oncology medicine, clinical risk prediction algorithms, biomarker discovery in childhood brain tumors, and toxicity prediction/minimization in ALL.12 Her work contributes to advancing the field of pediatric oncology and improving outcomes for children with cancer.
