Highlights
Woah, one year. How’d that happen?! 😅 🎉
This weekend marks one year since I moved to Montana, and a little over a year at SOVRN - A creative agency!
A few things I've loved about year one at SOVRN:
☀️ 1. It never felt intimidating to be the only woman.
This is a funny one but real. I happened to join SOVRN when the previous women on the team had moved on and it was all dudes. And yet while I was sometimes aware of it—like at restaurants (how are guys so fast at choosing what to order off the menu??? I’m always last. Maybe a me thing, though😂)—it rarely came up. In projects and meetings, every voice at the table is heard. My ideas and perspective are valued and encouraged. I see this as a testament to the character of my coworkers and the leadership at SOVRN; it’s a very horizontal org, and everyone treats each other with respect. (P.S. we now have two women! Yay Kassidy Barnes!)
☀️ 2. Startup vibes with “corporate” stability.
I love working at startups. And I hate working at startups. I spent my first three full-time jobs at companies three years old or younger. There is a chaotic fun to these work environments, and I enjoy directly contributing to the success of the business. At SOVRN, I have that same sense of impact, and the agility of a small, super-talented team—yet we also have the stability of being in business for 17 years. Best of both worlds.
☀️ 3. Awesome people, awesome clients.
As Joe Rice likes to say, “Work with the people you enjoy being around.” SOVRN is intentional about who we work with both internally and our partners and clients. The result is that we get to work on creative projects, with creative people. I'm inspired by my team, I’m motivated by the work our clients are doing and the problems they trust us to solve, I laugh a lot at work (I think this is an underrated quality of life factor!), I’m happy to come into the office each day. What a gift.
Could not be more grateful for this beautiful year in Montana, and with SOVRN! Cheers to loving your livelihood.

Fellow copywriters, I'd like your opinion:
Utilize vs. use?
I hate the word "utilize." It feels creepy and pointy.
I always thought you could simply say "use."
But when I searched around just now, I found this:
"Use means to employ something for its intended purpose, while utilize means to employ something for a new, creative, or strategic intent."
(From a LinkedIn article, no less, by Arch D. Currid. Thank you, Arch!)
Is this really how we're using it?
Are we utilizing the word utilize to mean something more than use? 🤯
Nooooooooooo
Please weigh in. Thank you. :)
