September 1st my teams and I will be the proud new owners of The Nook in Halifax.

We’ll be doing hot delicious meals every day, breakfast and chef partnered sandwiches, frozen to go’s, the espresso machine will be rippin’, and people will be getting fed for less than a ten and more than five, all day long. Discounts for families, seniors, rad folx, and the token project for people who need.

Food is insanely expensive, rent is stupidly expensive, and way too often people are having to make choices they should never have to, for themselves and their families.

Food “security” requires access to affordable and healthy food for EVERYONE. That’s it, that’s the answer, make it healthy, make it accessible, make it affordable. It requires ACTION.

In addition to all that goodness we’ll launch our WASTE NOT WANT NOT, food and grocery recovery programming in partnership with the East Coast Credit Union (who are long term partners on the whole project) , lots more to come on that.

For the last 6 years I’ve stayed close to the team at The Nook, in friendship and mentorship. We helped launch the token project in Halifax, my hometown, and it’s become a critical part of access to food for community members there.

Nicole Myles Brook , Brian Brook and their teams rule, that’s why management will be staying on to keep us steady on, with all the community that have come to love and trust them.

We’ll be open late fall again and can’t wait to make wildly delicious food for everyone.

Everyone deserves agency and access to real and affordable food.

Two guys who cook and love to compliment your cooking, walk onto a Halifax pier.

Mastery is earned through a lifetime of mistakes, but in a society that celebrates artificial perfection and far too often writes off those who stumble out loud, where do we build critical competence?

Far too many people have been told they can do anything, without being told they’ll have to do everything, to do so.

Where did all the hard conversations and stomach for critique go?

I was thinking today about how hard it is for people to communicate under duress, and how easy it is when we’re just honest about our intentions and our limitations, to navigate the murkiest of waters, together.

It’s no coincidence that one of the humans that walks this talk, walks onto a pier, as those thoughts run for me.
