Apple continue to actively work against supporting the circular economy - don’t believe their “Mother Earth” propaganda.
A few weeks ago many people were lauding Apple for their polished, Oscar actress led Mother Earth video, where they shared the alleged progress they were making in addressing their impact on the planet.
Unfortunately the few good things they are doing (which are mostly driven by a desire for revenue growth) are massively undermined by the continual damage they do elsewhere.
Here’s an example from the great team at iFixit, exposing how Apple are proactively working against consumers “right to repair” their devices, with many devices (particularly newer ones) literally being unrepairable.
As the article says “The situation has gotten so bad that several repair professionals have told us they’re leaving the business entirely rather than navigate the labyrinthine maze of obstacles that Apple has erected”.
Apple continue to wilfully breach EU warranty legislation, building products with forced early obsolescence and proactively undermine the repair industry to drive their profits. Does this sound like a company we should be applauding for their efforts on sustainability.
Their hypocrisy astounds me.

I’m starting to think that AWS might actually be trolling the industry when it comes to sustainability reporting.
Today they published the “Guidance for building a Carbon Accounting Platform on AWS”. It talks about connecting data sources, but neglects to touch on why natively the data used in their reporting is up to 100x wrong.
It’s frustrating that they are focusing all their attention and resources on convincing everyone they are the home for sustainable IT, without being willing to provide any meaningful data for their customers.
Definitely a clear case of profit first, planet last
As usual, please correct me if I’m wrong and have misunderstood it (that’s always likely)
