Professor Mark Fitzgerald is a renowned professional serving as the Director of Trauma Services at The Alfred Hospital and Director of the National Trauma Research Institute. He holds prestigious positions as a Professor in the Department of Surgery at Central Clinical School, Monash University, and in the School of Information Technology at Deakin University.
With a rich academic background, Professor Fitzgerald obtained his MB BS from the University of Melbourne in 1981, followed by a Fellowship from the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine in 1987. In recognition of his significant contributions, Professor Fitzgerald has been honored with prestigious awards, including the Ambulance Service Medal in 2003, the Foundation Medal from the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine in 2003, Honorary Life Membership from the Neurotrauma Society of India in 2010, and the Gordon Trinca Medal for services to trauma from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2013.
Throughout his career, Professor Fitzgerald has been actively involved in research, securing substantial funding as a Principal Investigator and Associate Investigator. Notably, he has been granted AUD 22 million as a Principal Investigator and AUD 67 million as an Associate Investigator, highlighting his success in obtaining research funding.
