Mark Peters

Mark Peters is the incoming president and chief executive officer of MITRE, a not-for-profit research and development company. He will assume this role on September 3, 2024, succeeding Jason Providakes.12

Peters is a recognized expert in nuclear fuel cycle technologies, nuclear waste management, and national security, with over 25 years of leadership experience in federally funded R&D centers.12 He currently serves as executive vice president of laboratory management and operations at Battelle Memorial Institute.12

Prior to his role at Battelle, Peters was the director of Idaho National Laboratory and president of Battelle Energy Alliance LLC.12 He has also held leadership positions at Argonne National Laboratory and Los Alamos National Laboratory.12

Peters holds a doctorate in geophysical science from the University of Chicago and a bachelor's degree in geology from Auburn University.2 He has received several honors, including the 2023 Henry DeWolf Smyth Nuclear Statesman Award and induction into the National Academy of Engineering in 2021.12
