Marquita Gaines is a senior at Howard University, majoring in Journalism with a minor in Spanish, and hailing from Marietta, Ga.

She has a diverse skill set that includes experience in research, fundraising, civic engagement, public policies and relations.

As a published journalist of both print and online articles, she covers a wide array of topics.

Marquita aspires to build a career in Public Relations and Speech Writing.

Despite being a Sickle Cell Disease patient, she remains positive and focuses on educating others about the disease and its complications.

She highlights the role of the American Red Cross in providing necessary resources for individuals with this condition to lead better lives.

An active participant in her education, she is involved in student government, volunteering in various organizations in the nation's Capital, and has a long-standing commitment to volunteering with the American Red Cross.

Marquita's volunteer work includes assisting the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and being a testimonial speaker at the annual Life Board luncheon in Atlanta.

Recognized for her efforts, Marquita has been featured in Who's Who and has been a part of Georgia's top 20 Under 20.

Her professional experience includes internships in various organizations such as the American Red Cross, Voice of America, SKDKnickerbocker, Turner Broadcasting System, and 21st Century Leaders, Inc.
