#BronzevilleUniverse
What if Bronzeville in Columbus had been allowed to flourish uninterrupted by racism, redlining, and urban renewal? To answer that question we must wrestle with the question of what happened?
What began as a conceptual brand identity project by Artfluential is growing into a mission to amplify the rich history of Bronzeville with the imaginative possibilities of the future. The goal? To create a vibrant and unifying community identity that celebrates the heritage, wrestles with the history, and inspires the future through repair, art, creativity, and engagement.

Ghost Neighborhoods
The Center for Urban and Regional Analysis (CURA) has launched the Ghost Neighborhood of Columbus project to help people understand what was destroyed by urban highway construction in the 20th century. In Columbus, predominantly Black communities such as Bronzeville and Hanford Village were significantly impacted by highway construction and other policy decisions like redlining and urban renewal. By creating 3D virtual reconstructions of these neighborhoods, the project intends to visualize the impacts of these policies while exploring and celebrating the rich history of these communities. The models will be displayed in the Poindexter Village Museum and Cultural Center.
In February I got to do something I don’t get to do as often as I’d like and that is share my art. I was asked to feature some work on some Orange Barrel Media IKE SMART City billboards in #Columbus and #Baltimore big thanks to Currecia G., Corey Favor, Randall Sistrunk and the OBM team for continuing to provide platform to amplifying the work of artists.

Continuing our mission of supporting the production and presentation of art, OBM & @ikesmartcity are proud to once again partner with artist Marshall Shorts ( @mrshortscreates ) highlighting his work on large format signs in @downtownbaltimore and IKE kiosks throughout Baltimore and Columbus’ @shortnorthartsdistrict • A true creative force, he navigates roles as an artist, designer, brand and cultural strategist, and community organizer, adapting his talents to the needs and spirit of each space he enters. As founder of Artfluential MAROON ARTS GROUP @creativecontrolfest Marshall collaborates with individuals and organizations at the vibrant crossroads of art, design, cultural strategy, and social justice, elevating the voices of Black creatives. • “As an artist deeply rooted in the vibrant traditions of gospel and hip-hop, my work pulls inspiration from the Black Arts Movement and the social-realism work of artists like Aaron Douglas, Kwame Brathwaite, Emory Douglas and Barbara Jones-Hogu. Through various art-making modes, I explore the transformative power of imagery within Black visual culture, seeking to change perceptions and shape Black futures. My practice, a blend of design, photography, and interactive public works, serves as a dialogue with viewers, inviting them to partake in the rich narrative of Black experiences. Proud to contribute to the canon of Black visual storytellers, I am dedicated to amplifying our stories with dignity and representation, standing as a testament to the resilience and beauty of our community.” - Marshall L. Shorts Jr.
