Marten Van der Meulen

Universitair Docent Godsdienstsociologie PThU en onderzoeker Protestantse Kerk

Marten Van der Meulen is a part-time Lecturer in Sociology of Religion at the Protestant Theological University, where he instructs students aspiring to be ministers in the Dutch Protestant Church, the largest of its kind in the Netherlands.

Additionally, Marten is a co-founder of 'hetkanWel', a company that produces content for various websites, including MSN.nl, a major Dutch website, and is engaged in event organization and crowd-sourcing initiatives with a core mission of promoting a greener, fairer, and more enjoyable lifestyle, reaching a monthly audience of 400,000 individuals.

Marten is also an author currently working on a book exploring the civic involvement of immigrant churches in Dutch civil society, drawing from a comprehensive four-year research project conducted from 2005 to 2009 that blends ethnographic and quantitative research methodologies. With a background in web publishing, online advertising, consumer crowd-sourcing, sustainability, religion, immigration, Christianity, and civil society, Marten has a wealth of expertise in various fields.

He completed a PhD in Sociology of Religion at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) and holds degrees in Practical Theology from the Theological Academic Institute of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands, Theology from Utrecht University, and secondary education from Bogerman College.

Noteworthy past roles include being a Strategisch onderzoeker at Protestantse Kerk in Nederland, an Officer Congregational Studies at the Protestantse Kerk in Nederland, a Partner at Planet Ads, a Sociologist of Religion at VU University Amsterdam, and an Editor in Chief at 'hetkanWel'.
