Marthe Goudsmit Samaritter is a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law in the Department of Criminal Law.2 She completed her D.Phil. (Ph.D.) in Law at the University of Oxford in 2023.23 Her research focuses on criminal law theory, jurisprudence, and personhood theory, with particular emphasis on technology-facilitated violence and image-based sexual abuse.2

Prior to her current position, Goudsmit Samaritter was a Stipendiary Lecturer in Criminal Law, Tort Law, and Jurisprudence at the University of Oxford from 2019 to 2022.2 She has also held positions as a Lecturer in Jurisprudence at Leiden University and has multiple degrees from Leiden University, including an LL.M. in Public International Law and an M.A. in Philosophy.2

Goudsmit Samaritter's work intersects criminalisation theories, human rights law, and technological developments. She has a general research interest in the justification of criminal law, wrongness, gender-based violence, and AI integration in law and society.2

Recently, she co-authored an article titled "The shadowy boundaries of obstetric violence" published in the Journal of Gender-Based Violence in September 2024.1 This work explores the contested boundaries of obstetric violence and challenges traditional understandings of care in childbirth.1
