Martin Giles is a Senior Industry Fellow at the University of California, Irvine's Center for Digital Transformation.26 He is also the assistant director of Hoover’s Technology Policy Accelerator, which focuses on policy issues affecting key emerging technologies.4 Additionally, Giles is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Council on the Future of Electronics.2 His LinkedIn username is martinpgiles.1

Before his current roles, Giles was the San Francisco bureau chief of MIT Technology Review, covering the future of computing and Silicon Valley companies.3 Prior to that, he was a partner at a venture capital firm focused on business technology and the editorial director of In-Q-Tel.34

Earlier in his career, Giles spent 25 years at The Economist, where he served as a senior editor, finance and economics editor, and led the paper’s coverage of Silicon Valley.4 He also managed global conference operations and other publications, and acquired and launched multiple businesses for The Economist Group.4

Giles received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, politics, and economics from Oxford University and an executive MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth Graduate School of Business.45 He is fluent in French and has professional working proficiency in German.1
