Martin Michlmayr is a prominent figure in the free and open source software community, with a keen interest in project management, non-profit governance, community development, and quality assurance. He held leadership positions in various organizations including a two-year tenure as the leader of the Debian project, six years on the board of the Open Source Initiative, and close to five years with Software in the Public Interest. Currently, he serves on the board of Software Freedom Conservancy and is actively involved in promoting the importance of open source foundations in supporting such projects.

Apart from his advocacy and leadership roles in the open source world, Martin Michlmayr is an open source accounting enthusiast. With a diverse educational background, including a PhD in Technology Management from the University of Cambridge, an MSSE in Software Engineering from the University of Melbourne, an MSc in Psychology from Universität Innsbruck, and an MPhil in Philosophy from Universität Innsbruck, Martin Michlmayr brings a multidisciplinary approach to his work.

His professional journey includes roles as an open-source consultant, developer, and former Debian Project Leader at Debian, Head of Open Source at Clearmatics, Director, and Treasurer at Software Freedom Conservancy, Director, and President at Software in the Public Interest, among others. He has also contributed as a Board Member to the Open Source Initiative (OSI) and served as an Open Source Community Expert at Hewlett-Packard. Furthermore, he has experience as an Editor at WEKA Zeitschriften Verlag.
