Given that I have observed friends/colleagues in the tech industry struggling with job searching these past few months - I figured I would share here that I am in a position now in my career where I am able and willing to volunteer in providing FREE mentorship for individuals who are unemployed and also currently striving towards learning AWS, Python, Powershell, general batch process automation, or general infrastructure administration. Now that it's 2 months away - I have decided to announce here that I am officially moving to Clearwater, FL on February 8th. Truly appreciative of all of the support that I have gotten from family, friends, and colleagues regarding this decision as it will be one of the biggest moves that I will make in my life. I will admit this was not a decision I saw myself landing on until very recently, but once it was made clear to me I acted on it rapidly to actualize it (8 days between landing home from FL and getting approved for a new apartment remotely). I am also eternally grateful to my company for supporting me in my decision and allowing me to make the transition to full remote (with the occasional office visit a few times a year).
It has taken me a long time in my career to finally land in a position where I can not only actively contribute to make a positive, effective, and tangible change on a daily basis but also be in a place where I can really thrive and grow amongst other talented individuals who have the same drive and ambition that I do that never give up on challenges which push us to the limits of our abilities (or further). Having lost my boss/mentor to COVID on Thanksgiving last year, filling that void has been extremely difficult and I will never do so completely. The best I can do to respect his memory and the knowledge he passed onto me is to strive to put in the work and grow into the person he knew I could become with each passing day regardless of the obstacles that are put in front of me.
With overcoming these obstacles, I've found that the biggest challenges that I've faced thus far in life were always prefaced with the identification of being in a transitory period and not knowing what to do next. There is a certain comfort level we all reach gliding toward complacency by embracing the familiar, yet the small inner voice in our subconscious whispering "What if?" still allows us daydream of what could be. Most people who know me well know that I have almost always heeded that voice to challenge myself in new and exciting ways, even if it takes me a while to do so. I do this because, even at my lowest points, I have never discounted what I am capable of when I put effort into committing to a decision and I never once have bet against myself even when the odds are not in my favor.
I challenge anyone who reads this who has similarly identified being in a transitory period to embrace that inner voice. Put yourself beyond what you are comfortable with and follow the path not yet built to a place you never dreamed of going. You may be pleasantly surprised with where you arrive to, and you will be thankful for taking that leap of faith and believing in yourself even if you erroneously believed that no one else did.
