Today marks the end of my journey with Workmate. A journey that began almost 7 years ago when Mathew Ward convinced me to join a company with a truly inspiring, but incredibly challenging idea: "to organize the blue-collar labor force and improve the livelihood of workers".
When I joined Workmate, we were a small team in a modest townhouse with big dreams but no revenue. Navigating a startup is always a gamble with slim odds at success, so today, I’m incredibly proud of looking back at a successful exit and our acquisition by one of the world’s leading HR companies, Persol Group, in 2022.
As with any startup, we've faced extreme ups and downs, often balancing on the edge of failure or success. I won't lie—it’s been a real battle! I’ve been drained and at times thought of giving up, the team has been pushed to the limit (maybe even beyond), but I’ve been fortunate to work alongside people with the same grit and determination to fight like true underdogs. It’s a fact: even when you think you’re running on empty, there’s always a little more fuel in the tank.
