Mary-Anne Lea

Mary-Anne Lea is a marine and polar predator ecology and conservation expert. She is associated with the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania. Mary-Anne is also a 2021 Rolex Awards for Enterprise finalist and a co-founder of Homeward Bound. She has a strong academic background with a Doctor of Philosophy and Bachelor of Science from the University of Tasmania and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and Marine Science from the University of Sydney.

Throughout her career, Mary-Anne Lea has been actively involved in various organizations and projects related to marine ecology and conservation. She has served as an Associate Professor in Marine Predator Ecology, a delegate at the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research, a science theme leader at Homeward Bound Projects, and a co-founder of Women in Polar Science. Mary-Anne has also held positions such as Deputy Head at the Ecology and Biodiversity Centre at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies.

Mary-Anne Lea's educational journey includes studying at the prestigious North Sydney Girls' High School before pursuing higher education in the field of marine science and zoology. Her research contributions have been recognized through roles such as a visiting research fellow at various institutions and as a senior research fellow at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies. Mary-Anne has a passion for environmental conservation and is known for promoting #EarthOptimism.
