Liz Cedillo-Pereira

Chief of Equity & Inclusion at City of Dallas

Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Cedillo-Pereira is the Chief of Equity and Inclusion for the City of Dallas.35 She has executive leadership oversight of the Office of Ethics and Compliance, the Office of Equity, the Office of Fair Housing and Human Rights, and the Office of Welcoming Communities and Immigrant Affairs.35 Cedillo-Pereira previously served as the Director of the Office of Welcoming Communities and Immigrant Affairs (WCIA), which was established in March 2017.32 In her prior role as Director, she oversaw the development of a comprehensive Strategic Welcoming Plan for the City of Dallas, which was unanimously adopted by the Dallas City Council in 2018.3 As Director of Dallas’ Office of Welcoming Communities & Immigrant Affairs, Cedillo-Pereira worked to promote the successful inclusion of immigrants into the social and economic structure of the Dallas community.4

A Dallas native, Cedillo-Pereira has more than 15 years of experience at the federal, state, and local level in immigration, human rights, and anti-trafficking related matters.32 Before joining the City of Dallas, she was the Senior Advisor to the Director of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during the Obama Administration.31 In this role, she focused on immigration policy and oversaw the agency's implementation of numerous policy priorities.3 She also led the agency’s revamped community engagement initiatives through the establishment of the Office of Community Engagement.3

Cedillo-Pereira is Board Certified in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.32 She received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctorate from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.3

Recognized for her service and legal excellence, Cedillo-Pereira has received the Distinguished Alumni Award from SMU Dedman School of Law, the Ohtli Award from the Republic of Mexico, and the Maura Award from the Dallas Women’s Foundation.21 She is married to Oscar Pereira, an aeronautical engineer, and they have three children: Amanda, Gabriela, and Oscar Samuel.21
