I have just received a #scam #joboffer .
What happened: Somebody who introduced himself as part of SVT Robotics sent me an #email : "Dear Applicant
We received your application for the position of Junior Software Engineer Remote position job on LinkedIn, You have been selected for an interview kindly confirm your interest in this position by replying YES to move on with the interview process we await your response."
I have replied YES, so he sent over a set of questions on a Word document. Questions include: "If a very talented Software Engineer on your team kept questioning your decisions, what would you do?", "What techniques would you choose to motivate disengaged employees?" "How would you negotiate a bigger budget for your team?" which are honestly weird questions to be asked to a "Junior" candidate.
He has sent this over on a Friday, and I spent the time writing the answers over the weekend and submitted it the following Monday.
By Tuesday morning, he emailed me that I have been hired and will send over an offer letter. I thought to myself, "that's it? One set of essays is getting me hired with this much of hourly rate (for a junior) + benefits and being a remote role?" I did not wish to say it out loud but it really was "too good to be true."
So he did send an offer letter but I replied him back with questions because he mentioned he will just send a check for me the buy the equipment needed (the biggest red flag apparently), which includes an "Apple-MacBook Pro 16" Display with Touch Bar-Intel Core i9-64GB Memory-8TB SSD-Space Gray.", which is an unconventional machine for a .NET developer. He has not replied me back since.
Upon discussing this "offer" with a relative and checking that the domain of the guy who emailed me was @svtroboticscareers.com while the domain of the real employees of the company was @svtrobotics.com, and the hiring manager herself confirming when I sent her a message, we have concluded that this was a scam.
Sharing this scenario to everyone so that we can all be vigilant in the job market. #scamalert #openforwork
