Masa Kakinoki, also known as abirdwhale, is a versatile artist and researcher with a PhD in Music, based in London and Tokyo.

Kakinoki has a rich background in music, having started his music career in high school and performing at prestigious events like ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL in 2008.

He pursued further education in the UK, completing a Master's degree in Music and Sonic Media at University of Sussex in 2013, followed by a PhD in Music specializing in audiovisual digital music performance at Canterbury Christ Church University in 2017.

His academic achievements include receiving a Canterbury Christ Church University Graduate School PhD Full-time Scholarship and a Tier 1 Exceptional Talent visa endorsed by Arts Council England in 2018.

Kakinoki also spent time as a visiting artist and postdoctoral researcher at CRiSAP, part of the University of the Arts London, funded by the Pola Art Foundation.

With a diverse skill set, Kakinoki has worked in various capacities, such as being an artist, film music composer, writer, and vocalist, showcasing his multifaceted talents.

He has been associated with organizations like University of the Arts London, Oishi London, HYPER JAPAN, and has even ventured into education as a Japanese teacher in London.

Kakinoki's passion for music and artistry is evident in his journey, and he continues to make an impact in the creative scene with his unique blend of skills and experiences.
